1. President's report 2009

The committee had about six meetings during this last year, all bar one of which were open to the public. The Annodex Association has had a bit of an identity issue in this past year, seeing that many of its original goals around technical adoption of specifications and software into Standards and software have been achieved. In this course, many of the documents and software that were available through the annodex.net website have been moved to Xiph's repositories and website. Also, a lot of its specification and ideas have now been integrated into W3C and HTML5 standards, or are in the process of getting incorporated. The Annodex Association thus is in the process of fulfilling its technical goals. Its Website and community activities have to refocus on other issues.

Activities that the association was involved with this past year include:

  • sponsorship of the FOMS workshop in Wellington,
  • engagement with the W3C on media fragment standardisation and HTML5 media element standardisation,
  • engagement with Australian ethnographic language researchers, browser vendors, and of course Xiph.

public meetings: April, May, June, September, November

private meetings: February

The main challenges of this year were the creation and improvement of collaborations with different groups towards standardisation of open media technologies.

collaborations and results:

  • Xiph
  • Mozilla, Apple, Google, Opera
  • W3C
  • Wikipedia, MetaVid, Kaltura
  • Dailymotion
  • CSIRO

standards work involvement:

  • accessibility work
  • media fragments
  • media annotations
  • HTML5 video/audio

projects continued to be undertaken:

  • liboggplay
  • liboggz, oggz-tools
  • libannodex, mod_annodex
  • ROE
  • accessibility scripts

maintainerships sorted:

  • libfishsound

FOMS Workshop:

  • sorted financials for 2009, including Google sponsorship
  • prepared FOMS 2010 and acquired sponsorship

plan to update website:

  • delayed for other priorities, but a new server has been prepared at annodex.com in preparation for moving old content and adding new

The Web servers www.annodex.org, www.annodex.net, media.annodex.net, and validator.xiph.org have been moved to a Xiph server and the Annodex Association is preparing to move off the vmware server graciously provided by Chris Double. Many thanks go to Chris Double for his generosity!

The president's report was accepted without objections.

2. Treasurer's report 2009

St George account access was transferred across to John Ferlito late last year.

Bank statements where ordered from St George in order to create a full financial record for the last few years.

The current financial status can be found in the Media:Financials 20091212.ods spreadsheet.

As of the end of December 09 Annodex had a surplus of $748.72 and had a closing bank balance of $7429.50.

All income and expenses for the year (barring bank charges) were FOMS related.

FOMS is still expecting $840 in unpaid invoices and $950 in sponsorship and $2000 back from a cancelled flight. It still has approximately $3,600 in expenses to be paid.

So we should have a closing balance of around $3,800 once FOMS is finalised.

FOMS as an event is expected to make a $1,200 surplus.
