Minutes
1) The future of the Annodex Foundation
State:
- the Annodex foundation incorporation process will need to be restarted
- CSIRO had asked to wait with incorporation until they provide an agreement
- we have had no news from CSIRO about a written agreement to attribute code copyright, the domains & the trademark to us
- we have had no AGM as we haven't solved the incorporation process
Discussion:
- Will CSIRO even be legally able to set up an agreement with us if we're not incorporated?
Results:
- CSIRO is probably only able to do trademark transfer to an organisation that actually exists
- We should pursue our incorporation and not wait for CSIRO any longer.
ACTION ITEMS:
- Silvia to pursue incorpoation options and present next meeting
2) Hosting sites:
State:
- currently all Annodex sites are hosted at CSIRO
- the CeNTIE project, within which the machines reside, will be closed mid next year
Discussion:
- jdub offered to talk to someone at OSL (Oregon State University Open Source Labs, http://osuosl.org/) about hosting
- an alternative solution could be to host everything at xiph.org
- we may even go as far as just joining the xiph foundation and closing down the annodex foundation completely
- most of us are already essentially members of xiph
- xiph is also well known
- however, we may be losing control over some vision and direction
- maintenance and support is the big issue
Results:
- hosting at xiph.org is not necessarily related to the closing-down of the Annodex Foundation
- if xiph.org agree, it would be possible to run the annodex-related sites fairly autonomously
- problem may be the server space requirements for a/v collections such as for cmmlwiki
ACTION ITMES:
- start talking to xiph people about possibilities of hosting
3) Status of Annodex:
- with tahseen having implemented skeleton support in many applications and actually having got it into the version control systems, sw support is skyrocketing
- also, Wikipedia had a Google Summer of Code student (bigmammoth) who implemented Annodex (and CMML) support into mediawiki
- bigmammoth also reported an interest of archive.org in theora/annodex
- there is lots of coding activity right now!
4) Other Business:
none.
