0. Welcome Denis to the new committee

Denis was well welcomed.

2. Committee meeting schedule

  • Agreed on the second Tuesday of every month, at this time

3. Financial status

James Purser reported that our current available balance is $1,098.25.

Silvia reports that Google's US$1K sponsorship has not arrived in our bank account, but Google insists they transferred it.

Silvia suggested that we will have to get the statement ready and the report to the Office of Fair Trading before the Google sponsorship sorts itself out. Michael Dale suggested asking Google for a receipt.

ACTION: James to chase up Google, by phone if necessary.

4. Annual Report

The required documents for annual reporting were discussed, resulting in the following action items:

ACTION: James to fill in the form and finalize the report then mail to Silvia for counter-signature and registration with Office of Fair Trading

ACTION: Silvia to create a membership list with Shane

5. Action items review

  • Invite ctford to FOMS re php_annodex

Done: ctford was unable to attend the workshop, but joined us for dinner and discussed php_annodex with Michael, Silvia and Conrad

  • Conrad and Silvia to extract old sw tarballs from archive.org or other backups

All release tarballs added for libannodex, recent release tarballs added for liboggz, libfishsound. Still missing tarballs for libcmml.

  • Shane: update membership list with the current mailing list subscriptions
    • not yet - can still send sql dump to purserj, Silvia to help for Annual Reporting reasons
  • Silvia: update web page with issues, etc.
    • not yet

ACTION: Silvia to find or create tarballs for libcmml

6. Update on CSIRO/Funnelback communications

Silvia reported that Marcin initiated another communication between her and Teresa (the Business Development liason in CSIRO who is working with us on Annodex-related IP handover). Teresa, John and Silvia met to discuss the situation. CSIRO's decision to open source the IE plugin will depend on the interest of Funnelback in licensing it and other Annodex IP. CSIRO seems to have started the process to hand over the Trademark.

Silvia also talked to Funnelback and they are deciding what to do with the software. Silvia was told that Funnelback will make a decision by the end of March.

7. Update on W3C communications

Silvia met with Doug Shepers who is heading the SVG working group at W3C. He is very keen to get the video stuff sorted, because he wants to use it in SVG.

This week she had intensive communications with Philippe LeHegaret, who organised the W3C Video on the Web workshop in December. Philippe is setting up the video activity at W3C, probably comprising the following Working Groups:

  • SMIL
  • TimedText
  • Media Fragments
  • Media Annotations
  • Media Guidelines

The SMIL and TimedText working groups are finishing their activities.

Media Fragments is in development: http://www.w3.org/2008/01/media-fragments-wg.html. Silvia has provided input into the charter. Philippe is planning to recommend Silvia as an Invited Expert. The first face-to-face meeting is tentatively scheduled for June 2008 in Sydney.

Media Annotations is also in development, but Silvia has not seen a charter yet. It will develop something like CMML - hopefully we can have input.

Media Guidelines is about providing recommendations on video-related things, such as codecs, encapsulation formats, accessibility etc and the W3C are not quite sure yet whether they will set up this working group or not.

8. Update on Servers & Systems (Spam problem)

Silvia reported that she, Ralph and John agreed to upgrade the xiph server and thus spamassassin to help manage the spam flood on the Xiph and Annodex mailing lists. This will probably happen over Easter.

9. Update on release status & sw/standards status

  • Conrad
    • liboggz, libfishsound are close to 1.0 release, had pre-releases before FOMS/LCA
    • created ROE wiki page

10. Other business

  • Silvia wishes Easter ROE
